Mrs. Hamlett

Welcome, Sumner Danbury Families!

Welcome to the 2018-19 school year!  I am thrilled to be starting my second year at “my home” here at Sumner Danbury.   I was previously a teacher here for 18 years. Then I  spent three years preparing to be a principal, working at three different Claremont elementary schools as Teacher on Special Assignment-Leadership Assistant, serving as an Assistant to the Principal. During this time I also earned my Administrative Credential from Azusa Pacific University. Then in May 2017 I was hired as Principal to lead a new administrative team for Sumner Danbury. I could not have been more excited to rejoin this AMAZING community !

To tell you a little bit more of my professional background, I began my educational career in Riverside Unified School District teaching 2nd to 6th grade. During my time there, I also implemented a K-6 Math Lab for underperforming students and became a Riverside County professional development provider in the area of K-6 mathematics. I then taught for two years in the Etiwanda School District and in 1996 I came to work in Claremont at Sumner Elementary where I taught 1st -3rd grade. During that time I was very involved in multiple aspects of teaching, learning, and leading, including earning my Masters degree in Educational Technology. Soon after coming to Sumner, Danbury School was relocated to its present site and I was extremely fortunate to be part of the original joining of our schools on to one campus! From the very first day, I knew this was the beginning of something extraordinary! And it has been! There is no other school I know that has such a caring, professional staff dedicated to educating the whole child; focused on meeting all student needs - intellectual, physical, social, and emotional. And this year will be especially exciting as we formally become one school - Sumner Danbury Elementary School!

On the personal side, I have been married for 35 years and have three grown children, all of whom went to school here at Sumner Danbury! My oldest son is married and living in Visalia, California; my daughter lives in Los Angeles and is a Wildlife Rehab Coordinator; and my youngest son is a graduate student completing an internship at Cal Poly Pomona. My husband and I love going to movies, watching the Dodgers-GO BLUE, reading, and spending time together at the beach or mountains.

Once again, it is a privilege to be working in partnership with the faculty, staff, and families of Sumner Danbury. I look forward to meeting each of you through the course of the year! Please don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns. Together we will continue to make Sumner Danbury “the best it can be!”
